Welcome to the review of MI3 from one of the Chinese giant XIAOMI, which literally means Xiao -"little", mi -"rice". Before I get it to device let me give you some overview of the company.
Xiaomi was founded in 2010 and they have reached great heights in just 4 years. The brand did not sell outside of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan until earlier this year, So it isn’t surprising when people ask Xiaomi, who? Yet, they call it as "Apple of China.
Xiaomi sells high quality smartphones almost at cost. They have a philosophy of selling devices directly to customers, that helps them manage to keep the prices competitive. The MI3 is no different.
Mi 3 is Xiaomi’s highest performing smartphone and has been in news for a while now. This phone has created buzz in the market and understandably so, But are great specs enough to make a great phone?
lets look at the device now.
Technical Specs:
5-inch IPS FullHD touchscreen (1920×1080 pixels, 441ppi) with Gorilla Glass 3
2.3GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800
2GB RAM | 16GB internal memory, no microSD card
3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4, NFC, GPS
13MP rear camera with dual LED flash, 2MP front camera
3050mAh battery
Android 4.4 Kit Kat with MIUI v5
Design:
The Mi3 has a plastic body but company has used a high quality plastic along with magnesium alloy chassis. It looks like a premium device. The front is dominated by 5 inch full HD display with capacitive menu button at the bottom. The power On/Off button and volume rocker are on the right side and 3.5 mm jack and the charging port are on the top and bottom respectively. Overall MI3 is very good looking device.
Camera:
The MI3 comes with 13 MP camera at the back with f/2.2 aperture and dual LED flash as well as 2MP front camera. The camera is pretty decent and does click a good pictures. However photos turn out to be soft and slightly washed out in low light condition.
Memory:
The only major shortcoming in this phone is storage. It comes with only 16GB non expandable memory, of which around 13 GB is available for users. Considering at the high specs, you would want to install high end games and HD videos. If you buy this phone you will have to rely on cloud services to get over this issue.
User Interface
This phone runs on custom android interface MIUI. This UI reminds me more of IOS than Android. It’s quite customizable, letting you decide the layout of the notification shade, the notification LED lights, and more.
The part I most like in this device is you can uninstall all pre loaded apps. This is something I have never seen before as many users stuck with all these bloatware apps.
Battery:
MI3 comes with 3050 mAh non removable battery. It will easily last a day may be even little more with normal usage.
Performance:
MI3 equipped with 2.3 Ghz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2 GB RAM and andro 330 GPU allows you to play your favorite games and apps at a blazing speed. Evrything is buttery smooth and you wont find any lag at any point.
Verdict:
Well with the given specs and the price this phone sounds fantastic. MI3 comes with a great hardware and unbeatable price of Rs.13,999. At this price i wont hesitate to recommend this to anyone. If you have a budget of Rs.15000 then dont look for any other option.
Few things to note:
