Hello Friends.
In my previous posts we have seen Best Phones Under Rs.20000 and Best phones under Rs.30000. After reading these, the biggest dilemma in the minds of buyers will be should we buy OnePlus One or  Xiaomi MI4. In this post I have tried to help those who are still thinking which is better device, which one should they buy.
MI4 and OnePlus one are the two exciting smartphone launches of recent times. Both the devices offers top specifications at very competitive price, hence they have gained a lot of attention and highly in demand. These two are close competitors still they have some differences.

MI4 vs Oneplus One

Design:
Let's start with design first. OnePlus One is larger than MI4 at 152.9 x 72.9 mm compare to 139.2 x 68.5. Both the devices are 8.9 mm thick, but OnePlus one is slightly heavier. MI4 looks premium with its still frame and chamfered edges. Its design will remind you of Iphone 5s. On the other hand One has Sandstone back finish which is unique and those who hate plastic look may like this device.
Both the devices features Full HD display, but OnePlus One has 5.5" display at 401PPI compare to 5" at 441PPI of MI4 . So that means MI4 has slightly sharper screen than OnePlus One.
So in terms of design I would say MI4 has edge over One, However if you want large display, then OnePlus One is for you.

Hardware and Performance:
In terms of hardware, both the devices are pretty much similar in most of the areas. Both runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor which is supported by 3GB of RAM and Adreno 330 GPU. Both the devices does not have external SD card slot option and comes with 16GB internal Storage option. OnePlus one is also available in 64GB variant(Rs.21,999) and MI4 is also launched their 64GB variant(Rs.23,999).
Xiaomi Manages to fit 3080 mAh battery in MI4 as compare to slight higher 3100 mAh in OnePlus One.

Software:
This is the biggest difference between these two devices. While both the devices runs on Android Kitkat, they are known for custom ROMs they run on.Xiaomi MI4 runs on latest MIUI6 whereas OnePlus One runs on Cyanogenmod.
Cyanogen on OnePlus One looks like stock android ROM, but it is highly customizable. It supports various themes, enhance security additional features and what not. However due to the deal between Cyanogen and Micromax Yureka, This device(India) will not get any OTA updates. Users need to root their phones to update the OS, which is big let down for OnePlus.
On the Other had, MI4 runs on MIUI6, which is also customizable ROM. I personally like MIUI for the features, customization that it offers. You will not face any issue with OTA updates and you will get all the regular updates that Xiaomi pushes to its users.

Camera:
Xiaomi MI4 sports a 13 MP  auto focus rear camera featuring Sony Exmor sensors with Dual LED flash. It also has 8MP front camera with 80 degree wide angle.
OnePlus One also features 13 MP auto focus rear camera featuring Sony Exmor sensors with Dual LED flash. As far as front camera is concern, it comes with 5MP front camera.
Both the devices are capable of clicking good pictures both in day light and low light. However Pictures clicked from MI4 looks bit better and sharper than OnePlus One.

Conclusion:
Honestly, its a tight call between OnePlus One and Xiaomi Mi4. Both the devices offers great performance and there is no going wrong either device. So which one to buy? If you are unsure then there are few criteria to consider:

Buy Xiaomi MI4 if:
  • you do not want bigger screen phone.
  • wants good look display quality, build quality and great design
  • do not want stock android experience and wants MIUI6
  • ready to spend Rs.2000 extra for 64GB and Rs.1000 for 16GB variant.
  • Do not want flash sales (16GB only) strategy.

Buy OnePlus One if:
  • having bigger screen is main criteria
  • you are comfortable in rooting your device to get updates.
  • you already have invites for this device.
  • enjoys stock android experience
  • having FM radio is not a criteria.
