Google has taken "Android One" initiative to bring quality smartphone at a cheaper price to increase the reach of Android to the masses. Android One platform promises rich experience on
low cost devices as Google will set minimum standard of hardware and
Software used my phone manufacturer. In this post we will review Micromax Canvas A1. Micromax Canvas A1 is one of the first phone launched under Google's initiative "Android One". Lets have a look at specs first:
Micromax Canvas A1: (Rs.6,499)
4.5 inch Capacitive touchscreen with 480 x 854 resolution
5 MP primary camera with auto focus,
2 MP Secondary camera 1 GB RAM,
4GB ROM and expandable upto 32 GB
1.3 Ghz Mediatek Quadcore Processor
1700 mAh Li-Po battery Android V4.4 Kitkat
Design & Build Quality:
This could be the best phone from Micromax in this price range when it comes to build quality. It feels very good in hand. You have volume rocker and power button on the right side. On the back this device has a metal plate around the camera which gives a unique look to this device. I personally like this look. It has 3.5 mm jack on the top and mic at the bottom. Overall a great looking phone at this price range. I would say this is the best in comparison with Redmi 1s and Moto E.
The phone has 4.5 inch capacitive touchscreen with the resolution of 480 x 854. The screen is sharp, and the viewing angels are also very good.
Camera:
The phone features 5 MP primary camera with auto focus and LED flash and 2MP secondary camera. At this price range this camera is decent. Obviously you will not buy phone in this price range to click quality pictures. This phone has auto focus and not fixed focus like Moto E. However there is still a lot that Micromax could have done for the camera on this device.
Performance:
This device runs of 1.3 quadcore mediatek processor supported by 1 GB of RAM. This combination is not so powerful but its equipped to handle all day to day activity with ease. Multi tasking on this device is also fine unless you open too many apps at a time. The touch of this device is very responsive, however it lags sometime. This phone is not for those who is looking for high graphic games. I have downloaded the games like candy crush and it works smoothly on this device. The device runs of latest android version 4.4 and it will get all the future android updates.
The device comes with 4GB of internal memory out of which only 2.27 GB is available for users. You will require SD card if you want to store data in this device.
Battery:
The phone has 1700 mAh Li-Po battery which lasts for a day with normal usage. However if you are using internet, listing songs and watching videos, playing games then you will require to charge the phone twice in a day.
Verdict:
If you are looking for a device with limited budget and you are unable to get Xiaomi's Redmi 1s, then this is the device for you. Phone looks great in hand and is capable of doing everything that is required from the phones under this price bracket. Also the fact that this device will be among the first which will get all the latest android version makes it a great buy. The only drawback i can say is the camera which is not so great.
